Sangareddy: In view of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s announcement that classes at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Medak district will begin from July 2008, the district administration has initiated steps for conduct of first year classes at the ordnance factory.
The ODF, located in Eddumailaram, is one of the three sites selected for setting of up the prestigious institution. However, the ordnance factory’s expansion plan has made the high-power committee from the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development select Kandi for setting up the IIT. The HRD Ministry has indicated that it would like to commence the classes from the 2008 academic year and it has been a practice that classes begin even before the construction of a new IIT campus starts. Speaking to The Hindu here on Friday, Collector B. Venkatesam said that he was in touch with the Andhra Pradesh Council for Higher Education for further instructions.
