CHAMARAJANAGAR: Kollegal Wildlife Division officials arrested four persons from whom a leopard skin was seized in the Ramapura forest limits on Thursday. Deputy Conservator of Forests, Kollegal division, Kumarpuskar told The Hindu that acting on a tip-off, the forest officials’ team led by Assistant Conservator of Forest Uday Kumar made the arrests. He gave the name of the arrested persons as Mani (35), a native of Ikkathoor village in Sathyamangalam taluk in Tamil Nadu, Shivaraju and Govinda of Meenyam and Ottige Gowda of Gajanoor in Tamil Nadu. He said that Mani was running a cattle yard near the Yedayarahalla Forest in the Meenyam forest range. He said Mani had left a poisoned carcass in the forest as bait. Later, on Mani’s instructions, Shivaraju, Govinda and Ottige Gowda found the body of a leopard. The arrested have been remanded in judicial custody when produced before the JMFC Court, Kollegal.
