Applications invited for printers’ excellence award
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI: Several new categories to encourage small printers to participate have been added to the fourth National Awards for Excellence (NAEP) of the All India Federation of Master Printers (AFMP).
The objective of the national awards is to motivate printers to enhance the quality of their work, Federation chairman Bikash Sarker told press persons here recently.
NAEP filled the void created by the Directorate of Audio-Visual Publicity (DAVP) that discontinued its printing awards programme in 1983. “Through such competitions, we are reaching out to printers to make them quality-conscious,” Mr. Sarker said. “We have already received 1,860 entries from Mumbai for the 2008 awards,” he said. “We hope to achieve the target of 2,000 entries.”
There are several categories such as single colour offset, screen printing, flexography, gravure, digital and metal printing. Stationery, books, periodicals, journals, letterheads, labels, stickers, greeting cards, post cards, menu cards, posters, calendars, catalogues and polybags are included for the awards. The offset group has also been classified into three categories — small, medium and big.
Special awards
Special awards for best printing, innovative packaging, digital printing, ‘well-bound’ book, outstanding print results on indigenous paper and design in packaging and design in publicity material have been instituted.
The last date for sending in entries, which can be submitted at local authorised centres, is December 20.
The awards will be presented at a function in Kolkata on February 22.
The results will be published in a book that will include the profile of the best printer.
