CHENNAI: School of Architecture and Planning (SAP) Alumni Association, Anna University, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Zak Trade Fairs and Exhibitions on Wednesday to conduct “Architech Construction Speciality Expo 2008” in Chennai Trade Centre from February 28 to March 2, 2008.

An MoU to this effect was signed by SAP Golden Jubilee Committee chairman Altaf Ahmed and Zak Trade Fairs and Exhibitions chairman and managing director Syed Zakir Ahmed in the presence of Prince of Arcot Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali.

Maiden foray

Addressing presspersons, Mr. Ahmed said that as technology provider it was their maiden foray into architecture field to create awareness about this sector and to present the latest trends in products and services to architects and the builders’ community.

“Captains of the industry, renowned academicians and leading government policy makers would provide in-depth perspective of India’s rapidly expanding construction industry.

Besides, the seminar would be an ideal platform to unveil the directions for the future, rediscover the potential of the past, prospects of partnership and explore the investment opportunities in this sector,” he said.

Concurrent to Architect Expo, Zak-SAP will hold 10 events — Zak Glass Technology Asia Expo, Zak Tiles & Sanitaryware Expo, Zak Facades & Roofing Expo, Zak Buildtech Expo, Zak Doors & Windows Expo, Zak Walls & Flooring Expo, Zak Interiors, Kitchen & Bathroom Expo, Zak Electrical & Lightings Expo, Zak Construction Hardware & Tools Expo and Zak Plywood & Veneers Expo.

Over 500 architects are going to attend this exhibition-cum-seminar.

It is also proposed to have a business to business buyer-seller meet, tech podium and architects’ conclave.

The seminar will be held on February 28 and 29 spanning 8 sessions in all.

On the last day of the Expo, Alumni Association would honour the faculty and first batch of students, who passed out some 45 years ago.

Ar.V. Balaji, past president of SAP Alumni Association, said:

“we will use this occasion to do something for the current student community, renew old friendships, forge ties and create awareness about this sector.”

Nawab Abdul Ali in his speech asked the youngsters to take up architecture in a big way for a successful career in their life.
