Rockets caused most cracker related accidents

CHENNAI: A majority of cracker-related fire accidents in the State on Deepavali day were caused by rockets.

Of the nearly 250 accidents reported, 150 were caused by rockets, according to the State Fire and Rescue Services. Chennai had the highest number of cracker-related accidents (54), followed by Cuddalore district (35), Tiruchirappalli (16) and Villupuram (15). Namakkal, Coimbatore, Erode, Ramanathapuram and Thanjavur districts accounted for 11 each and Tiruvallur district 10. Of the 57 accidents in the city on Wednesday and Thursday, 48 were due to rockets. There was no serious fire accident anywhere in the State, Director of Fire and Rescue Services Bholanath told The Hindu.
