festive touch: Banana leaves were brought from far flung places for Deepavali.
ADILABAD: People of all categories in Adilabad celebrated Deepavali on Friday with more gusto than ever thanks to an excellent crop season that spelt good times for all concerned.
All shops did roaring business until evening especially in things that are used for puja and other rites of the festival of lamps.
Banana leaves were imported from places as far away as Vijayawada and sold by the hundreds.
Each banana stem with four to six large drooping leaves was sold for about Rs. 50 on an average.
At least 10 lorry loads of the leaves were sold out within no time. There was great demand also for the ‘banti’ flowers and mango leaves.
The flowers and leaves were also used in decorating ‘toranams’ in order to welcome Goddess of wealth Lakshmi.
In the evening soon as the Lakshmi puja was performed fire crackers were burnt with much enthusiasm.
