NEW DELHI: MCKS Food for the Hungry Foundation, a non-profit relief and charitable outfit, organised an interactive session on “Food Security” at Delhi University’s Janaki Devi College here on Thursday. The initiative was aimed at creating awareness among students at the college level about the acute crisis of hunger and deprivation across the country. It also threw up a strategy through which several other activities would be carried out in various universities and colleges to promote public awareness about food security in India. A large number of students and faculty members attended the presentation on the right to food and issues of food security. It was mainly an interactive session between the students and teachers who were equally curious about the complex issues of food and livelihood security. The core idea that emerged from the discussion was the need for a legal entitlement to guarantee every citizen his/her fundamental right to food. The role of citizens’ action in the form of a national campaign was also discussed. They came forward to share their views and experiences on the issue and to extend their support for this great cause. An overwhelming number of students came forward to volunteer for taking forward this campaign. The Delhi chapter of MCKS Food for The Hungry Foundation will soon organise an interactive session on “Food security” at Jawaharlal Nehru University and Jamia Millia Islamia.
