Touching a chord: Makers of the animation film on HIV/AIDS speak about their venture. PUDUCHERRY: Puducherry-based Edison Studios and S.S. Balaji, a graduate in visual communication, have brought out a 13-minute-long 2-dimensional animation film on the subject. Titled ‘Dec 1st’, the movie tells the tale of two people who fall in love. One of them has the virus, which is passed on to their children. “There are a lot of CDs and short films that could be used for AIDS/HIV propaganda but none that speak of the issue in animation. Since we have been working with animation for the past four years now, we thought animation would be an apt medium [to portray the issue]. It took us about eight months to conceptualise, visualise and make the entire film,” says Balaji. It was a young team that made the film possible. The team includes N.P. Nallathambi (producer), A Sumathi (associate producer), Nityanandam, Manivannan and Viswanath. The filmmakers plan to use the short film to create awareness of the issue to schools, colleges and non-governmental organisations, and also the Puducherry AIDS Control Society.
