ERODE: Twelve police check posts have been formed in Erode district to prevent crimes, said the Superintendent of Police, Sonal V. Misra, here on Saturday. To prevent the smuggling of rectified spirit from Mysore and Bangalore to Kerala via Erode district, a special police team has been formed under the Additional Superintendent of Police, N. Rathinam, and the Deputy Superintendent of Police, A.R. Velu, of Prohibition Enforcement Wing, she told reporters. On Friday the team had seized 35 litres of rectified spirit from a car near the Diesel Loco shed on Chennimalai road., Three persons have been arrested, she said. On information given by the accused, the police arrested another person and seized 70 litres of spirit from the car he was driving. Search was on for two more persons. Ms. Misra said: The Deepavali festivities concluded without any incidents of crime. Because of police patrol in the bazaar, pick pockets and snatching of jewellery were prevented. From November 1 to 7 no major case of theft was reported. But on Thursday, somebody entered into the house of a doctor at J.J. Nagar in Gobichettipalayam and decamped with 30 sovereigns of jewellery and cash. A special team has been formed to arrest the culprits.” She said that all efforts have been taken to ease the traffic congestion in Erode. Women constables deputed for traffic regulation duties would be empowered to book traffic violence cases. She asked the people to cooperate with the police in regulating the traffic.
