Plea to impose ban on palmolein import

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala has urged the Centre to impose a ban on the import of palmolein. In a statement here on Saturday, he said the Centre had banned the import of palmolein in order to provide some relief to coconut cultivators who were hit by a crash in the prices of coconuts and coconut oil. The prices had improved as a result of it. However, the staying of the ban by the High Court had pushed the coconut cultivators into distress, Mr. Chennithala said. — Special Correspondent
