Consultations: Farmers from the Rajakkad area airing their grievances to agriculture scientist MS Swaminathan during an interactive session at Adimali in Idukki district on Saturday

ADIMALI (Idukki dist): The recommendations for the revival package for the farm sector in Idukki district is expected to be finalised by the end of December, said agriculture scientist M.S. Swaminathan, after the first full sitting of the M.S. Swaminathan Committee here on Saturday.

Talking to mediapersons, he said the recommendations would be location-specific and pro-small farmers.

It will address the economic, ecological and infrastructural problems and prescribe proposals for the economic revival of the district and the well being of the farmer.

Methodology

Expressing confidence that the committee would be able to come out with an effective package that would be acceptable to all sections, he said with the studies on the revival of the farm sector in Alappuzha district, the team from the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation had successfully evolved a methodology for the purpose. This involved on-the-spot case studies, interaction with farmers, non-governmental organisations, government officials and also own insights.

Study

In the case of Alappuzha, the committee could successfully finalise a study and the recommendations had been accepted by the Union government. Now it is being processed by the State government.

In Idukki too, the same methodology would be used, he said and added that in addition to the two more interactive sessions already announced, at least 10 more sessions at various levels would be organised.
