Three men arrested for damaging statue

Staff Reporter

They vandalised it at Velayuthapuram

TIRUNELVELI: The Karivalamvanthanallur police arrested two persons for allegedly damaging the statue of Muthuramalinga Thevar at Velayuthapuram on November 4.

Police said S. Gurusamy (35) of Velayuthapuram South Street surrendered before the panchayat president of Panthapuli, Rajaguru, on Saturday after the police were looking for him in connection with the desecration of the statue.

Based on the information provided by Gurusamy, the police arrested his associate K. Murugan, also from Velayuthapuram.

The third member of the gang, Kaliraj, has already been arrested by the police for staging road roko immediately after the statue was damaged.

During interrogation, Gurusamy reportedly told the police that the trio damaged the statue as they, all affiliated to a political party, were not allowed to install the pole to hoist their party flag.

Further investigations are on.
