Man arrested on rape charge

Thiruvananthapuram: The rural police have arrested a 45-year-old man on the charge of sexually exploiting a minor girl. Circle Inspector (Nedumangadu) Muhammad Shafi identified the suspect as J. Benson of Karakulam.

The CI said the suspect had victimised a 10-year-old girl hailing from a broken family in the locality.

The suspect had lured the girl with sweets and sexually exploited her in three different locations in the city, including a film theatre.

He said Benson has been charged with attempted rape. The police have video recorded the statements of the victim and the suspect.

Benson, an electrician, was produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate court and remanded to 14 days in judicial custody.
