CPI (M) for integrated industrial policy

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has urged the State Government to come out with an integrated industrial policy covering state public sector undertakings, cooperative industries, small and medium industries and traditional sectors.

State party secretary N. Varadarajan, in a statement here on Saturday, said in the present policy grants and incentives were announced for new big industries and for expansion of the existing big industries. If one went through the present policy, one could imagine the amount of huge investment required for achieving the target of 20 lakh jobs in the State. The party wanted adequate share to be given to small and medium industries through grants and incentives. The Government should revive small and medium industries which had become sick due to the change in economic policy.

No one would deny that for a proper industrial development, the Government should create a congenial atmosphere.
