DUBAI: Nearly 1,10,000 Indians who were working illegally in the United Arab Emirates have availed themselves of the three-month amnesty offered by the government.
Of them, 70,000 have left the country, and the others have found new jobs or reworked their employment status.
About 2,86,000 illegal workers either corrected their status or left the country during the amnesty period, begun June 3, said Assistant Undersecretary of Labour Obaid Rashid Al Zahmi. Now that the amnesty period had ended, he warned of legal action against illegal workers, numbering 3,00,000-3,50,000.
