VILLUPURAM: In a quarrel over issuance of photo identity card for inclusion in the National Employment Guarantee Scheme, a man was killed at Thirunavur near Tindivanam on Saturday.
According to sources, panchayat president Guruvel had arranged for taking photographs of the villagers who opted for the scheme on Saturday. A resident Sadaiyan, who was away from the village, came to get photographed after the programme was over.
He approached Manickam, a supporter of Mr. Guruvel, asking him to include his name in the scheme, which ended in a wordy duel.
After a while, a group of persons armed with sticks and sharp weapons attacked Mr. Manickam and his son M. Gothandaraman (40).
Gothandaraman died on the way to hospital.
