A comprehensive plan to promote efficiency in the Posts and Telegraphs services has emerged from a close scrutiny of the problems connected with developmental and day-to-day activities of the P and T Department from a conference of the heads of departments called by the Union Minister for Transport and Communications, Mr. Lal Bahadur Shastri in New Delhi last week. Quick transmission of mails, telegrams and trunk telephone calls, devolution of enhanced powers to heads of circles and other subordinate authorities in order to give them powers of decisions on the day-to-day problems and construction of staff quarters are some of the aims for whose early achievement a series of detailed measures have been recommended.
