Minister declares open health sub-centre

“The Chief Minister ensured expeditious execution of the poll promises”

PUDUKOTTAI: All residents of a panchayat in Pudukottai district benefited through the State Government’s ‘Free Colour Television set’ scheme on Sunday.

The Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests, S. Regupathy, distributed television sets to 214 persons of Madhayanaipatti panchayat near Viralimalai. Till now, none of them possessed the television set.

A near-similar situation prevailed at the neighbouring village of Marudampatti where only three of the total 221 families owned a television set.

The Union Minister distributed the free television sets to all the 218 families.

Speaking at a function held at Marudampatti village, Mr. Regupathy said that Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi was fully aware of the economic backwardness of villagers like those in Madhayanaipatti and Marudampatti panchayats.

With the distribution of free television sets, the scheme had benefited all the families belonging to the economically weaker sections in these villages. Although doubts were raised by certain sections about the feasibility of the implementation of these schemes, the Chief Minister ensured expeditious execution of the poll promises.

Mr. Regupathy said that the State Government implemented several schemes for the overall benefit of the farming community and the economically backward sections.

Collector D. Uthirakkumaran presided over the function.

Anganwadi centre inaugurated

The Minister also declared open a health sub-centre constructed at an expenditure of Rs.1 lakh and an ‘anganwadi’ centre in Marudampatti.
