Bullet aimed at boar kills man

Bangalore: A 35-year-old man was shot dead at Honappa Layout in Hoskote police station limits on Saturday when a bullet targeted at a wild boar hit him instead.

Nagesh, a priest, and one of the 20 tenants at 85-year-old Honappa’s farmhouse, was inside the building when Honappa, using his single barrel gun to shoot a wild boar, misfired and the bullet pierced through the window glass and lodged itself on Nagesh’s chest.

He died on the spot and his body has been sent for autopsy.

The Hoskote New Town police have registered a case and are on the lookout for Honappa, who is absconding. The police said that Honappa had a licensed gun to protect his crops.

Hit-and-run case

One person was killed when an unknown vehicle hit him on Naganathapura Hosa Road in Madivala traffic police station limits on Saturday. The person, whose identity has not been established as yet, died on the spot. The body was shifted to Victoria Hospital mortuary.

Pirated books seized

The Central Crime Branch (Fraud and Misappropriation) seized pirated books of Paulo Coelho’s By The River Piedra I Sat Down And Wept and the press used to print the books.

Sangu alias Mallappa Algundu (20), Jagadish alias Mallikarajunaswamy (31) and Dayanand N. Atavi have been arrested in this regard.

House burgled

Santhosh Kumar Sahu, an engineer at Bharat Heavy Electronics Limited, and his wife woke up to an intruder in their house in Basaveshwara Layout in Vijaynagar police station limits on Saturday around 2.30 a.m. The as-yet-unidentified thief was helping himself to the jewellery box when the couple woke up. By the time they could call for help, the thief fled with the loot, jumping onto the terrace of the neighbouring house.
