Record supply of power on Diwali day

Special Correspondent

Uninterrupted electricity in all towns and villages

JAIPUR: The public sector power distribution companies in Rajasthan achieved an all-time record on Diwali by supplying 11.25 crore units of electricity across the State without any load-shedding and without cutting the power supply to farmers in villages.

The Chairman and Managing Director of Rajasthan Vidyut Prasaran Nigam, Shrimat Pandey, said here on Sunday that despite an unprecedented load of 5,200 MW recorded on Friday – when the festival of light was celebrated – an uninterrupted supply of electricity was ensured in all towns and villages.

New sub-stations

The power load during the peak period in the Diwali season last year was recorded at 4,400 MW. Mr. Pandey said the installation of 54 sub-stations of 220 KV, 263 sub-stations of 132 KV and 2,600 sub-stations of 33 KV this year had facilitated the continuous power supply through a better infrastructure.

Against 72 lakh units of electricity supplied on Diwali last year in Jaipur city, 85 lakh units were supplied on Friday. The Jaipur Vidyut Vitaran Nigam made special arrangements for Diwali by installing 300 new transformers and enhancing the capacity of 120 others.

There were no reports of load-shedding in any part of the capital city on Diwali.

Mr. Pandey said the implementation of the feeder renovation programme had ensured round-the-clock power supply to domestic consumers in as many as 13,500 villages.

The supply of additional electricity on Diwali led to an unhindered availability for lighting and decoration in all towns and villages.
