Rs. 65 lakh for roadworks in Chitradurga, says MLA

Staff Correspondent

‘Rs. 3 crore allocated exclusively for Vani Vilas Water Project’

Chitradurga: Under the Flood Relief Project, Rs. 65 lakh has been earmarked for asphalting the main road connecting the City Municipal Council (CMC) and Traveller’s Bungalow (TB) in the city, said MLA G.H. Tippareddy.

Speaking to presspersons here on Sunday, he said that funds were being released under various heads for the repair and maintenance of the city’s roads.

He said some engineers from Bangalore would be using a new technology for asphalting the roads without digging out the previously laid cement roads.

He hoped that the technology would be successful and economical.

Lack of attention

He expressed disapproval over the lack of attention given by the CMC to the maintenance of roads here.

“I have instructed the CMC Commissioner to ensure that the main roads of the city are repaired at regular intervals to avoid mishaps,” he said.

Responsibility

Mr. Tippareddy also said that maintenance of roads was the responsibility of the administration as well as the people, and added that the latter should ensure that the roads were not damaged.

Referring to the Vani Vilas Water Project, aimed at resolving the drinking water problem of the city, he said development work was likely to be completed by December.

“I have spoken to officials of the State water board, who said that the city would receive water by December,” he said.

The MLA urged the board to complete the ongoing work at least by January next, if not by December this year.

He threatened to stage a dharna if it was not completed on time.

He said that there was no shortage of funds, as Rs. 3 crore had been reserved exclusively for the project.
