Maharathotsava celebrated in Chamarajanagar

Staff Correspondent

Chamarajanagar: Thousands of people from parts of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu witnessed the Lord Malai Mahadeshwaraswamy’s Maharathotsava on the special ocassion of the Deepavali festival at M.M. Hills in the early hours of Saturday. Frenzied devotees pulled the vehicle carrying the idol of Lord Mahadeshwara from Mahadwara temple at 7.55 a.m.

It was customary for farmers in this region to shower their agriculture produce at the vehicle as offerings to Lord Madappa. The devotees danced to the sound of drumbeats and other musical instruments. The songs of Lord Mahadeshwara were chanted. The devotees who offered the “Mudi” to the Lord had not bathed. Scanty rain in the forest region of M.M. Hills had dried up the ponds. Instead, devotees bathed in the polluted water in a small pit near Antharagange.
