Women’s varsity: crucial Syndicate meeting today

Staff Correspondent

BIJAPUR: The Karnataka State Women’s University, Bijapur, has called its Syndicate meeting on Monday to review the recruitment of faculty members as directed by Governor Rameshwar Thakur, who is also Chancellor of the university.

On July 12 last, the then Vice-Chancellor Syed Akhtar held a Syndicate meeting defying the Government directive and filled 67 teaching posts. Regardless of the risk involved, most of the recruits chose to join the service. They have now been dismissed following the Governor’s order issued last week.

However, the order asked the university authorities to continue their service as temporary employees till their recruitment is reviewed by the Syndicate. This measure was initiated to see that already commenced courses were conducted smoothly.

Sources said a good number of the recruits, who have now been dismissed, had eligibility and the Syndicate might decide to reappoint them. However, many others, against whose candidatures the Justice S.R. Vekatesh Murthy Committee has made adverse comments, would not be reappointed. A list of “ineligible” candidates would be prepared and sent to the Government for a final decision.

According to sources, the former in-charge Registrar (Evaluation), R.S. Yeli, might not be reappointed as the commission of enquiry had made an adverse comment on his academic eligibility.
