POLLACHI: Minister for Local Administration and Rural Development M.K. Stalin will on Monday lay the foundation stone for construction of additional bus stand, a long-felt need of the growing town, and other major schemes in Pollachi. The bus stand will come up opposite the existing bus stand and Sub-Collector’s office, at a cost of Rs. 1.75 crore. The existing bus stand is proving to be inadequate with the increasing number of buses plying on the Coimbatore-Palani-Dindigul Highway. Mr. Stalin will also lay the foundation stone for water supply improvement scheme to be implemented at a cost of Rs. 9.30 crore for Pollachi municipality. Supply The water supply improvement scheme is expected to increase the supply to the coconut town, leading to alternate day supply of drinking water to residents. The Minister will lay the stone for another major scheme: construction of classrooms at a cost of Rs. 3.62 crore for the Municipal Girls Higher Secondary School. Construction of six electricity sub-stations will be also be launched by the Minister. UGD schemeIn Coimbatore, Mr. Stalin will lay the foundation for the Rs. 377-crore Underground Drainage (UGD) Scheme at a function to be held on Monday. The project is being implemented by the Corporation under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). The Minister on his arrival would take part in a function organised by the Urban District Unit of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) for performing free marriage of 55 couples at CM Kalyana Mandapam on Avarampalayam Road. He would take in the party’s youth wing meeting to be held at 12 noon at Rajasthani Sangh. In a release issued here, Mayor R. Venkatachalam said that the Minister would lay the foundation stone for the UGD scheme at a function to be held at Corporation Kalaiarangam at 10 a.m. AssistanceHe would also distribute financial assistance with Rs. 50 lakh subsidy to 200 women under the Golden Jubilee Urban Employment Scheme and would also hand over appointment orders to 50 persons on compassionate grounds. The Rural Industries Minister, Pongalur N. Palanisamy, would preside over the function. District Collector Neeraj Mittal, Member of Parliament, Coimbatore, K. Subbarayan, Corporation Commissioner, P. Muthuveeran and others would take part in the function, the release added.
