Curb extremism in Pakistan

Once again the Pakistan is under the shadow of Emergency, which, of course is not new to the people of Pakistan. Since the birth of Pakistan till date the country is in army rule besides few period and

the destiny of the people of that country is that still they are not enjoying the fruits of democracy.

President Musharraf declared the State of emergency with a plea that to stop terrorism, the emergency for a particular period is necessary, which is o.k. but it seems the power emergency is utilised in his favour which is not at all justified. In recent days the terrorism gained much momentum in that country and a firm & concrete step is required to stop the menace. If the General curbs extremism then he will get much appreciation from all quarters.

The democracy is a good thing but taking advantage of democracy and spreading hatred and terrorism is not at all tolerable by any nation.

Hope General Mush will take proper and better decision in the

interest of the people of Pakistan for overall development and prosperity.

Nandigram violence

Communist Party of India (Marxist) is certainly at loss of words over Nandigram violence. Double standard of CPI (M) came out to open as its cadres are taking up battle on behalf of industrial forces.

The same party made a huge hue and cry when 13 tribals were killed when police opened fire at them at Kalinganagar in Orissa in 2006. All the top brass right from Prakash Karat to Sitaram Yechury had flown in to Orissa equating the killing with Jalianwalabagh massacre.

But when over 32 innocent villagers had lost their lives since March

this year, why the CPI (M) top brass was silent over it? Another local leader, A. B Bardhan of CPI, was almost in tears while addressing a rally after the Kalinga Nagar incident. Where is Mr. Bardhan now?

Where is the Congress that made life of Narendra Modi miserable over killings in Gujarat? Why the party is maintaining silent.

Are the political parties in India out to do politics only? And don’t

they have any sympathy over deaths of innocent people in the game of political one-upmanship.

Water row

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has shown his usual ‘non-seriousness’ to the issue of distribution of Hirakud water in favour of industries.

The issue could not have stirred the State Government, had there not been gathering of over 40,000 farmers. The issue began to surface two years back when the State Government was at cloud nine after receiving projects valuing thousand crores of rupees. Water Resource Department, which is under charge of Mr. Patnaik himself, went on to allocate water from the reservoir. It could not have happened without knowledge of Chief Minister himself.

As the farmers stated voicing their protests against the water

diversion and the movement gained momentum, Mr. Patnaik woke up from deep slumber. So as other political parties who have so far been silent over the issue.

Characteristically, Chief Minister said State Government would enhance reservoir capacity of the Hirakud.

But before announcing this, Mr. Patnaik should have gone for wider consultation. Several experts have opined that the task seems to be impossible. Even engineer-in-chief of water resources said enhancing water capacity of reservoir is an Herculean task. Chief Minister should desist from playing to the gallery.
