Anniversary: Actor Simbu with children from HOPE Foundation celebrating the first anniversary of Fun City, family entertainment centre, in Chennai recently. CHENNAI: The children were eagerly awaiting actor Simbu’s arrival. Not because they knew who he was. But because his arrival meant they could enter Fun City and sample the slides, rides, toffees and games that lay just a few feet away from them. At the celebration of its first anniversary recently, Fun City, a family entertainment centre of Citymax India, invited around 25 children from the HOPE Foundation, a non-governmental organisation that runs a home for HIV affected women and children. Wearing bright red fun city T-shirts, the children, aged between 2 and 11, made full use of their one hour of pleasure. From riding in cars and buses to playing basketball, they did it all. The machine that gave out free toffees remained the most popular. Located at Citicentre on Radhakrishnan Salai, Fun City is a ‘kiddy place’ in the shopping mall, a place where children can have a good time while their parents shop ,” said Citymax managing director Ravi Saxena. Actor Simbu, chief guest for the function, said he was delighted to see the kids enjoying themselves and urged Fun City to continue with this work. Blowing out the candle, cutting the huge chocolate cake and playing games with some of the children, he appeared having as much fun as they did. Following the games at the centre, a silver-body painted dancer put on a show that had the children standing on their toes to watch. A comedy show came next. At the end of a few hours, satiated and smiling, the children left for home.
