Nominations invited for scientist award

CHENNAI: The Tamilnadu State Council for Science and Technology has invited nominations for the annual Tamilnadu Scientist Award (TANSA) that recognises outstanding research work or skill acquired in several scientific disciplines.

The award with a cash prize of Rs.10,000 and a citation is given to those who have ‘made conspicuously important and outstanding contribution to human knowledge and progress,’ according to a press release. The disciplines that are recognised include, agricultural sciences, biological sciences, chemical sciences, environmental sciences, including earth, atmosphere, ocean and planetary sciences, engineering and technology, home or social sciences, mathematical sciences, medical sciences, physical sciences and veterinary sciences.

Those belonging to Tamil Nadu and engaged in research or innovation in these fields in the State are eligible to apply. Nominations of suitable candidates will be accepted from the Vice-Chancellors of universities, Deans of Science, Agriculture, Engineering and Technology, Medical Faculty and Veterinary Sciences, Directors, Deans of faculty of institutions deemed to be of university status, Directors of national organisations and other research organisations located in Tamil Nadu.

The application form can be downloaded from www.tanscst.org. Four copies of the application in bound form with a demand draft for Rs. 200 and other enclosures should be sent to ‘The Member Secretary, Tamilnadu State Council for Science and Technology, DOTE Campus, Chennai – 600 025’ on or before November 30, 2007.
