CHENNAI: Chennai will have a health city on the lines of those in Pune, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Gurgaon. The Chettinad Health City, promoted by Rajah Sir Muthiah Chettiar Charitable and Educational Trust, will come up on 100 acres in Kelambakkam on the proposed six-lane IT corridor. The health city with a 600-bed hospital and a medical, nursing and dental college with an intake of about 300 students annually will emerge as a tertiary-level hospital with 52 specialities. The first phase of the hospital will be inaugurated on Thursday by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. The focus would be on making the health city an internationally recognised centre for quality healthcare. In the second and third phases, clinical and wellness services, medical education and research and developing health information technology and health industries would be the focus, chief administrator of Chettinad Hospital and Research Institute N. Venkat Phanidhar told reporters here on Saturday.
