VIJAYAWADA: The stretch between Kottavantena and Alluri Seetarama Raju Bridge on the Ryve’s Canal bund will soon become one of the beautiful places for entertainment, with the Builders Association, Vijayawada, developing it in a phased manner.

After completing the construction of a walking track, the association has developed a yoga centre on the bund. It has also drawn plans to construct a gymnasium, a health club and a children’s park on the bund, which will be maintained by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC).

Role model

Inaugurating the yoga centre on Sunday, Municipal Commissioner Natarajan Gulzar lauded the efforts of the association and said that it was a beautiful example to showcase how a wasteland could be developed into a useful place if public came forward to take up the task. He said builders from the city had become role models for others by contributing their mite to the city’s development.

Mr. Gulzar promised the builders that the VMC would provide all possible support to improve facilities at the walking track, yoga centre and other projects coming up in future.

He advised other industrialists to take up similar works to beautify the city.

Mayor Mallika Begum said that the objective of the VMC was to make the city beautiful. As a result of the initiative taken by the builders, the bund of Ryve’s Canal wore a new look. “I hope the remaining canals bunds too will wear a beautiful look in the future,” she remarked.

Ms. Begum advised people to keep their surroundings clean and green and not litter the roads. Local corporator Veeramachaneni Lalitha urged the Municipal Commissioner to open a tailoring training centre at the yoga centre so that local women learnt tailoring during leisure.

Builders Association’s Vijayawada president A.V. Subba Raju said that the association would spend Rs. 25 lakhs on the development of Ryve’s Canal bund. He said canals were special features of the city, which could be converted into tourist spots by improving the facilities. Association vice-president Ch. Sudhakar and general secretary Y.V. Ramana Rao were present.
