VIJAYAWADA: The Anti-Goonda Squad of the city police on Sunday arrested 24 persons on the charge of gambling and seized Rs. 39,370 from them in separate cases. The police raided mango gardens in Kotturu Tadepalli where they found eight persons playing cards with a stake money of Rs. 29,000. The police conducted another raid at Nunna mango garden, where they arrested 16 persons and seized Rs. 10,370. The accused persons were handed over to the Two-Town police. Ornaments missingGold jewellery and silver ornaments estimated to cost about Rs. 15,000 were found missing from a house at J.D. Nagar on Sunday. The Patamata police said that Koppineni Lakshi Narasimha Swamy, a teacher, went to his relatives’ house in Suryaraopet on Saturday evening after locking his house. On Sunday, he answered a call from his neighbours, who informed him that the main door of his house broke open. He rushed to the house and found that gold jewellery and silver ornaments were missing from the almirah.
