Site identified for Ariyalur Collectorate

Staff Reporter

PERAMBALUR: The district administration has selected a site on the Ariyalur–Vilankudi Road in Ariyalur for the construction of the Collectorate for the Ariyalur district to be carved out from Perambalur district.

Stating this to presspersons after inspecting the site on Saturday, the Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology A. Raja said that the sprawling site of about 20 acres near the Government Industrial Training Institute was an ideal area for the Collectorate. The district administration would recommend the site to the state government for approval.

Mr. Raja said that the Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had assured that adequate funds for the construction of the Collectorate would be allotted in the next Budget.

Work on the ring-road in Ariyalur would be completed by 2008. A railway over-bridge would also be constructed as part of the programme, he added.

The District Collector Anil Meshram explained to the Minister the topography of the site selected for the Collectorate campus.
