Gurukulams to unearth hidden talent in rural areas and hone skills

TIRUPATI: Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) Chairman K.C.Reddy has announced that the State Government is determined to open ‘21st Century Gurukulams’ in all the districts of the State by the year 2009.

He made the announcement after inaugurating a ‘Gurukulam’ at Sri Venkateswara University campus here on Saturday.Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Reddy said that the idea was to unearth hidden talent in the rural areas, hone their skills and provide them with employment opportunities on a par with urban, city-bred students. As the Gurukulam identifies students for training upto mandal level, rural penetration is ensured, he added.

CARD drive

The chairman later announced that a ‘Career Awareness and Recruitment Drive’ (CARD) would be conducted under the auspices of Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) on November 17 and 18.

This would be the second such programme for the current academic year, after the one held at Andhra University in Visakhapatnam earlier.

Prof. Reddy announced that the event would provide a forum for creating awareness in the students on the industry’s requirements to increase their employability, besides acting as a bridge between employers and job-seekers.

He hoped that a large number of students will emerge victorious in this round especially since the students were now aware of the qualities they were expected to possess and the skills they were required to develop.

He saw communication and soft skills as a major prerequisite. for attracting the industry. Vice-Chancellor S. Jayarama Reddy was also present.
