CHENNAI: Union Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation G.K. Vasan termed the attack on Tamil Nadu Youth Congress president Mayura Jayakumar “murderous”.

Talking to presspersons at Satyamurthi Bhavan, he said it was the first time such an attack had taken place at the party headquarters.

“Arrest culprits”

He wanted the police to arrest the culprits responsible for the attack immediately. The party high command should identify those behind the attack and take disciplinary action against them, he said.

Following the incident, the meeting of MLAs was brought to a close by Congress Legislature Party leader D. Sudarsanam.

He later told newspersons that the meeting would continue on Monday.

Heavy police force has been deployed near Satyamurthi Bhavan.

A delegation of MLAs led by Mr. Sudarsanam met Mr. Kumaran and urged him to arrest the culprits.

Youth Congress volunteers in different parts of the State staged demonstrations condemning the attack on Mr. Jayakumar.

In Dindigul, the police arrested 25 party workers when they attempted to stage a road roko.
