PATHANAMTHITTA: The district administration would start pre-paid taxi service to Pampa from Thiruvalla Railway Station during the forthcoming Mandalam-Makaravilakku festival, District Collector Raju Narayana Swamy said. Basic facilitiesTalking to The Hindu, Mr. Swamy said the proposed pre-paid taxi service would be made available round-the-clock from November 15 and the administration was also planning to provide more basic facilities to Sabarimala pilgrims at Thiruvalla which was the only railway station in the district. Information centreThe Collector, who was also the chairman of District Tourism Promotion Council, said the council would operate an information centre at the railway station from November 15 to January 16, where pilgrims could book the pre-paid service of cabs and contract carriages to Pampa. Those who wish to operate pre-paid taxi service from the railway station may contact the Joint Regional Transport Officer, B.J. Antony. Help to pilgrimsThe Collector said that Thiruvalla being the nearest railway station to Pampa, the proposed pre-paid taxi service, District Tourism Promotion Council information centre, and other base camp facilities would be of great help to the Sabarimala pilgrims coming from different parts of the country by rail during the annual festival season.
