GOOD SHOW: Salman Butt, whose gallant knock went in vain, has an admirer in Yuvraj Singh.

Kanpur: Indian captain M.S. Dhoni was lavish in his praise for Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh. “Yuvraj is in great touch and is batting brilliantly. Harbhajan has always been my trump card,” said the captain.

Dhoni did not agree that India tended to lose momentum after a decent start. “We won today, so we’re batting well. We got a good score.”

Shoaib Malik said Pakistan would bounce back for the remaining matches. “We will play aggressive and try to win.”

On Kamran Akmal’s form behind the stumps, he said that the team had no other wicket-keeping choice. “As far as batting goes, Akmal and I are in a bit of a lean patch, but we will come out of it,” he added.

The captain also praised Salman Butt for his “superb batting.”

On his decision to bowl first, Malik said that there was some confusion on how the wicket would behave. “Even Dhoni was a little confused. We didn’t know how it would turn out.”

PTI reports:

Dropping Yuvraj early in his innings and allowing him to forge a century stand with Dhoni cost Pakistan the match, rued Malik.

“It was a costly drop. It allowed him to join hands with Dhoni and take upper hand. We were pretty much in control till the 27th-28th over but after that, things just went out of hand.

The partnership between Yuvi and Dhoni was the turning point of the match.” Malik said.
