FRAT campaign for development

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Federation of Residents Associations, Thiruvananthapuram (FRAT), has decided to launch a campaign to focus attention on the need to expedite the development of the district.

Participants in the governing committee meeting of the Federation held here on Saturday said development activities in the capital had ground to a halt. They alleged that neither the Cabinet sub-committee for the development of the capital nor the Chief Minister’s intervention was able to address the situation. The governing committee members pointed out that the government had failed to revive the road development works in the city that were paralysed for months.Alleging that the LDF government lacked a coordinated approach to development issues, the meeting called on elected representatives to join hands. “While Ministers from other states lead delegations to the Centre to press for development projects, Union Ministers representing Kerala have failed to rise to the occasion,” they added.

The Federation said the Chief Minister had failed to honour his commitment to set up a separate department for the development of the capital region.

The meeting approved a three-day district-wide campaign to take the message of development to the masses. It called for the Chief Minister’s intervention to resolve the acute shortage of LPG.A resolution adopted by the committee criticised the Chief Minister for his statement on the flood situation in the city. It said the remarks were an affront to the victims of flooding. Frat president T.K. Bhaskara Panikker and general secretary Paraniyam Devakumar addressed the meeting.
