‘It is a great honour for the Delhi unit of the party to be given such a responsibility’ ‘No efforts would be spared to make the daylong session a grand success’ NEW DELHI: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president J. P. Agarwal held a meeting of the Delhi MPs, MLA, DPCC office-bearers and Municipal Councillors here this past week to discuss the hosting of the special All-India Congress Committee session in the Capital on November 17. Expressing gratitude to Congress president Sonia Gandhi for entrusting DPCC with the responsibility to host the session, Mr. Agarwal said no efforts would be spared to make the daylong session a grand success. “It was a great honour for the Delhi unit of the party to be given such a responsibility and everyone will contribute to make the session memorable. The session assumes significance in the light of the fact that several States are going to the polls this year and the Delhi Assembly elections will also be held the next year,” said Mr. Agarwal, adding that committees had been constituted for the smooth conduct of the session. AICC general-secretary and in-charge of Delhi affairs, Ashok Gehlot, said: “The United Nations declaring the birthday of Mahatama Gandhi as “Ahimsa Diwas” had emphasised the fact that Gandhism was a universal philosophy and not just confined to the boundaries of India. It was due to relentless efforts of Sonia Gandhi that October 2 was declared “World Ahimsa Diwas”. She had asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take up the matter with the foreign dignitaries visiting India and the efforts eventually bore fruit.” MP Krishna Tirath said the opportunity provided to the DPCC to host the session would stand it in good stead in future.
