Constable injured by speeding car

NEW DELHI: A Delhi police constable posted at the Sarojini Nagar police station sustained serious injuries near the Sanjay Jheel Park here on Sunday after he was hit by a speeding car.

Ramesh Chander along with constables Sanjay and Surender was conducting routine check of vehicles near the park around 1 a.m. when a rashly driven Innova car coming from the direction of Pilanji rammed into a motorcycle parked near the barricade and hit the constable, before mounting a pavement and coming to a halt. Sanjay and Surender, who were standing a few meters away from Ramesh, had a miraculous escape.

Ramesh was taken to All-India Institute of Medical Sciences and later shifted to Jaya Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre with serious injuries in the head and right arm. Driver Varun (24), who had been driving his employer Aditya’s car, has been arrested and the vehicle impounded.
