Puducherry
PUDUCHERRY: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy on Monday said the government was considering projects such as the monorail scheme to reduce traffic congestion in Puducherry. Speaking at the fourth anniversary celebrations of the Federation of Puducherry Two-wheeler Mechanics Welfare Association here, he said two-wheeler mechanics would soon be included in the Welfare Board for Unorganised Workers. This was a long pending demand of the members of the association, which would bring them bonus once a year and rain coats. On a request for controlling prices of spare parts, he said that arrangements would be made to sell two-wheeler spare parts through the Puducherry Agro Products, Food and Civil Supplies Corporation. Referring to the demand for house site pattas at government rate, he asked them to form a co-operative society so that they would be able to receive loans to construct houses. Oulgaret Municipality Chairman N.S.J. Jayapal, who was present on the occasion, gave away prizes to children of association members, who had excelled in academics in Standards X and XII. Association president R. P. Velu sought a reduction in the fees to be paid for trade license certificates issued by the municipalities. The association had distributed trade license certificates to all its members. A total of 65 members donated blood on the occasion.
