Science exhibition in Pudukottai

Vairam’s Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Pudukottai, hosted the district inter-matriculation schools science exhibition recently. The day-long exhibition provided a golden opportunity to youngsters to bring out their scientific talents. Students from about 20 schools from all over the district displayed over 100 scientific models on various topics. The exhibition was inaugurated by Chief Educational Officer S. Chellam with Inspector of Matriculation Schools Mundaiyan. A large number of students from sister educational institutions visited the exhibition along with their parents.

Thanjavur team for State meet

A team of young student scientists from Little Scholars Matriculation Higher Secondary School on Nanjikottai Road in Thanjavur has been selected for participating in the State national students’ science conference to be held at Chennai on December 1 and 2. The team led by ninth standard student of the school Jagadeeswari competed with 150 other schools in the fifteenth national students science conference held at Bharath College of Science and Management at Thanjavur recently and got selected. The team members are Sophia Nousin, Lavanya, Lakshmi Priya, Seethana Devi. School Vice-Principal Swaminathan and teachers who guided them appreciated the students. Parent-Teachers’ Association president Robert Alexander and association secretary Muthuramalingam conveyed their greetings to the students.

Mount Zion student is district champion

K. Sakthivel of Mount Zion Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Pudukottai won the individual championship in the junior category in the district level athletics meet held recently. He won gold in the 200 m; long jump and high jump and a bronze in the 100 m to win the individual championship. At a function held at the school premises, Sakthivel was a felicitated for his achievement. Regional Inspector of Physical Education M. G. Ramachandran, Senior Principal Jonathan, and Physical Education teachers B. Manoranjitham, G. Mohan, S. Neelakandan and K. Packiyaraj offered felicitations.

Contests held

Rotary Club of Pudukottai conducted various competitions for the wards of inmates of Government Rehabilitation Home, Pudukottai, in connection with the Deepavali celebrations. Club president M. Srinivasan presided over the function and Deputy Superintendent of Police, Pudukottai town, Veerasamy gave away prizes to the winners. Club secretary M. S. Saravanan offered felicitations.

Rotarians’ Deepavali at orphanage

The members of Rotary Club of Perambalur celebrated Deepavali with inmates of the Orphanage functioning at the St. Dominic Higher Secondary School. They distributed sweets and crackers to more than 50 inmates. Speaking at a brief function, Rotary Club president Ramesh extended Deepavali greetings to the inmates and the sisters running the home. He assured all assistance to the home in future. Rotary district vice-governor K. N. Jayaraman underlined the need for celebrating Deepavali safely. He urged the members of Rotary Clubs to join such hapless children in celebrating functions. Former presidents of the club, Sekar and Babu, club secretary Karthick, Thanthai Hans Roever College faculty member Ravi and others offered felicitations. Sr. Jesintha Mary, Sr. Pushpa and others thanked the Rotary members.

Journey for sight

Under the auspices of Lions Club of Mathur, an awareness rally on ‘Journey for Sight’ was taken out recently. Students of Government Higher Secondary School in Mathur took part in the rally and walked about two km. Carrying placards and raising slogans, they explained the importance of eye donation. They also motivated the people to donate blood and plant saplings. Assistant Commisioner of Police, Tiruchi, K. Selvaraj; club president M. Muniappan; and Regional Chairperson Ramesh Babu were among those who spoke on the occasion. They appreciated the students’ efforts in creating awareness of eye donation among villagers.
