CHENNAI: Lower-rung Congress leaders in the State accused rival gangs of resorting to violence against each other, even as the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee condemned the attack on the Youth Congress president, Mayura S.Jayakumar, and demanded action against those responsible. The TNCC also wanted those responsible for the attack on its president, M.Krishnasswamy, brought to book. A few Congressmen held protest demonstrations in a few towns in the State including Chennai and Vellore. While senior Congressmen maintained silence over Sunday’s attack on the Youth Congress leader, Congress MLA M.K. Vishnu Prasad has approached the Madras High Court, seeking anticipatory bail in connection with Sunday’s attack on Mr. Jayakumar. Apprehending arrest by the Anna Salai police, Mr. Prasad said he had nothing to do with the alleged incident, and that the case had been “foisted” on him due to “instigation” by the “political rivals” of himself and his father, the TNCC president, M. Krishnasswamy. According to the affidavit filed in the High Court on Monday, the petitioner expressed shock at the incident but said the complainant had deliberately included his name to malign him. LetterIn a letter to the Police Commissioner on Monday, Mr. Prasad also requested that a case be registered immediately against Union Minister G.K. Vasan and his supporters who, he claimed, were the “root cause of all that happened.”
