MADURAI: The police should be aware of various welfare programmes of the Government, Inspector General of Police and Commissioner, K. Nandabalan, has said. Speaking at an awareness programme on ‘Health and Central Government Schemes for Police Personnel’ organised by the Directorate of Filed Publicity here on Monday, he said that the police should keep themselves abreast of the latest advancements in different fields. “By being aware of development programmes, the police can educate the people. They can guide aspiring youths to avail the benefits of welfare schemes,” the Commissioner said. With the advent of information technology, access to information had become easy. The city police was planning to bring like-minded service organisations on one platform to serve the society better. “The police department plays a vital role in Government-public interface,” he added. The Director, Directorate of Field Publicity (Tamil Nadu and Puducherry), B.K. Vetriselvan, and the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), R. Ramrajan, also spoke. At least 100 police officials in different ranks took part in the day-long awareness programme.
