Hi-tech: An artist’s impression of the Metro Rail station on Mahatma Gandhi Road in Bangalore. BANGALORE: Here is your chance to have a say in the city’s transport system of the future, the Metro Rail. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC), the special purpose vehicle in charge of Metro Rail in the city, has called for “opinions from stakeholders” for the designs of the Metro stations that have been made public recently. In the “News” section on its website www.bmrc.co.in, BMRC has uploaded designs for the Metro stations proposed at Mahatma Gandhi Road (near the Plaza cinema), Trinity Circle (Near Nalli Silk House), Ulsoor (in place of the present police quarters), CMH Road (by the side of Arya Samaj) and Old Madras Road (at the junction of 80-Foot Road, Indiranagar, and Old Madras Road). You can send your responses to bmrcl@dataone.in, a press release from BMRC said on Monday. FacilitiesThe Metro stations have been designed keeping in mind facilities for commuters, including persons with disabilities, the release says. Responses are being called for Metro Stations on Reach-1, i.e. from Byappanahalli to Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium. Ramps from roads or footpath to lifts, disabled friendly toilets, rain water harvesting and solar power harnessing mechanisms, parking facilities for cars and tow wheelers. The Mahatma Gandhi Road station will have three side entrances — from the Manekshaw Parade Ground, M.G. Road and Church Street. The M.G. Road entrance will be where the Plaza theatre is situated now. The Manekshaw Parade Ground and Brigade Road entrances will be parallel to this entrance. The Trinity circle station will have a common concourse above Mahatma Gandhi Road, located adjacent to Nalli Silks, and thereby allowing unhindered traffic movement on the road below. Parking facilities will be available in the social welfare hostel premises located 100m from the station.
