Plan for salvage of Den Den

MANGALORE: Modalities of undertaking salvage operations on the stricken Eritrean vessel m.v. Den Den was discussed at a meeting between authorities, New Mangalore Port Trust and Svitzer Salvage here on Monday. Svitzer has informed authorities that they would be only responsible for removing the furnace oil on board the vessel.

Al-Hamal, an off shore vessel arrived at the port on Sunday. According to the plan, three tankers with combined capacity of 36,000 litres would be loaded on to the OSV and taken to the site of the operation. Karan V. Vaswani, Deputy Conservator, NMPT told presspersons that the salvage team has already carried out preliminary work in the run-up to removal of furnace oil on board Den Den.
