NEW DELHI: Vice-President Hamid Ansari conferred the first K. Subrahmanyam Award for Excellence in Strategic Studies on Sudha Mahalingam on the 42nd Foundation Day of the Institute for Defence Studies and Analysis (IDSA) on November 10. Also present at the award giving ceremony were External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Defence Minister A. K. Antony, Defence Secretary Vijay Singh and IDSA Director N. S. Sisodia. Cash prizeAn energy specialist and distinguished scholar of international affairs, Ms. Mahalingam was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 50,000. The award has been instituted in recognition of the services of K. Subrahmanyam, one of India’s foremost strategic experts and a former IDSA director. A Senior Fellow at the IDSA, Ms. Mahalingam has over 20 years of professional experience in research, consultancy and journalism, including with The Hindu Group of Publications. Her major areas of research are energy security and reforms in the energy sector. She is the author of over 40 articles and research papers in national and international journals.
