Saying ‘no’ for a cause
Many leaders preach, but care little to practise. But K.V. Thomas, MLA, proved his mettle by doing what he advocated. The occasion was the conference of the All India Bank Officers Confederation held at the Fine Arts hall.
As usual, the guests were being received with bouquets.
Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac was the first person to be welcomed and he accepted the bouquet. Next in line was the MLA, but he politely refused to accept the bouquet.
The reason – it was covered with a plastic sheet.
The organisers had to do a ‘retake’ with a bouquet sans plastic cover. The message went down quickly. The plastic covers were removed from the rest of the bouquets. It finally became a plastic-free inauguration.
