Central varsity at Cheemeni likely

Staff Reporter

KASARAGOD: The Central university allotted by the Union government to the State may come up at Cheemeni in the southern part of the district.

A team of people’s representatives and officials led by K. Kunhiraman, Thrikkarippur MLA, visited the area recently to study its suitability.

The team visited various locations at Cheemeni and inspected the facilities there, including availability of water and access to roads.

Nearly 200 ha of land was required to establish the university, authorities said.

The authorities are considering acquiring a portion of the land of Plantation Corporation of Kerala Ltd. near Cheemeni Engineering College to set up the university, sources said.

Plantation Corporation of Kerala Ltd. has 985 hectares, which includes cashew plantations, in Cheemeni.
