Hariz is also seen. Thiruvananthapuram: As many as 12 new Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) polyclinics will be set up in Kerala, Major General E.J. Kochekkan, GOC, ATNK & K Area has said. Addressing the Armed Forces Veterans (AFV) Meet 2007 here on Tuesday, he said the new polyclinics would be in addition to the 11 already in existence. One of the new clinics would come up in Thiruvananthapuram taking into consideration the population of ex-servicemen in the city, he said. Earlier, a colourful ceremony was held at the Pangode military station here to mark the inauguration of the meet. Major General (Retd) M.N.K. Nair inaugurated the event. Over 800 Army veterans, war widows and their families are attending the two-day meet. Brigadier P.M. Hariz, Station Commander, and Col. K.V. Mohan, SSO, were also present at the inaugural function along with senior army officers of the station. A comprehensive information brochure in English & Malayalam was released at the function. Compiled by Pangode Military Station Headquarters, the brochure contains salient aspects of ECHS scheme, pension benefits, education facilities, State and Central government schemes for ex-servicemen and recruitment information. During the function, Ms. Rhitika Vajravelu, daughter of Col. Vajravelu, Dental Surgeon, M.H. Pangode, was felicitated for having emerged State champion at Kerala State Tennis Championship in the under-12 category which was held last month in Kochi. In his address, Brigadier Hariz termed ECHS a major project taken up by the Armed Forces. “More than 37,500 members are registered in the scheme. As many as 26 hospitals and diagnostic centres have been empanelled and 44 more hospitals have applied for empanelment. In Thiruvananthapuram district, Lords Hospital, PNM Hospital, Kattakada Hospital and Sri Chithira Tirunal Institute of Medical Sciences have already been empanelled and SUT Hospital would soon be empanelled,” he said. Govindan Nair, Director, Sainik Welfare Board, Thiruvananthapuram, and Col. Sriniwas, Deputy Director, Regional Centre, ECHS, Kochi, also spoke.
