ALAPPUZHA: A.K. Antony’s status as Union Defence Minister has certainly not enthused bureaucrats in finishing works sanctioned under his MP Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) on time. This was what Mr. Antony learnt for himself during a review meeting of the projects held here on Tuesday. Assessing the progress of various projects in nine districts for which funds had been sanctioned from his MPLADS account, Mr. Antony was quite taken aback to see that out of Rs.3 crore he had allocated over the last two years, the amount spent was a mere Rs.1.21 crores. “This must be the only place where funds are available but no work takes place,” he remarked.
