There are no takers for reserved posts
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: There are not enough takers for the posts reserved for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Classes in Union Government offices and public sector undertakings, according to B.M. Sudarsana Natchiappan, Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice.
Talking to presspersons here on Monday, Mr. Natchiappan said 30 per cent of vacancies were not being filled.
The prolonged selection process has encouraged private enterprises to wean away the prospective candidates, he said.
Taking the case of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), he said the UPSC was taking nearly three years to announce the list of selected candidates.
“This is making the prospective candidates to opt for private enterprises, who quickly absorb [them],” Mr. Natchiappan said.
He said the committee has taken this issue seriously and has been working towards changing the promotion and recruitment processes, including that of the UPSC.
